Nothing But the Blues

The Blues is a musical genre and musical form that originated among African-Americans in the Deep South of the United States around the 1860s. It appeared in work songs and spirituals. The Blues is now an integral part of many musical styles: early and modern jazz, ragtime, country, bluegrass, rhythm and blues, bebop, and rock ‘n roll. The Glad Hatters Jazz Band will demonstrate the basic form of the Blues and play Traditional Jazz tunes associated with cities such as Memphis, St. Louis, Dallas, Atlanta and New Orleans, and with streets like Basin, Canal, and Beale. The Blues can be slow or fast; the Blues can be sad or happy. Whatever the form, the Blues is sure to stir an emotional response.
